22nd December update
The first event of the new year kicks off with a slide show from Essex angler Mark 'Fentiger' Phillips.
Mark has a vast array of slides and he will be doing a reveiw of last year's pike, zander and catfish expeditions. It promises to be a very intersting night so please show your support.

04th December update
We are proud to annouce that angling columist and tackle consultant Bob Roberts will be coming along to the xmas meeting to give a talk on Barbel fishing on the Trent.
Please note that the meeting is not at our usual date of the first Tuesday of the month but Thursday 9th of December. The venue is the same however. John has arranged a late bar for the night. This event is for members and guests only.
Forthcoming events that are confirmed.
Tuesday 4th January 2005 8.00pm - Mark Phillips (Fenland fishing)
Tuesday 1st February 2004 8.00pm - Pete Haywood

A few reports indicates that Rudyard is fishing reasonably well just lately from boats or down the railway side. John tells me that SPAG Member Ivan Owen has taken five doubles in a boat session and even I managed a decent fish from the little wood area.
28th November update

Club members again did well on the second weekend of the Blithfield event. Lure specialist Dave Kelbrick and his boat partner Dave McGowan both had twenties as did John Davey and Andrew 'Spuder' Cartlidge. Graham Slater (my boat partner) had two doubles to 19lb-2oz.
Mick Bates had a slendid 28+ pounder but the best fish of the weekend fell to Kevin Dunn a few ounces short of 30lb (29lb-12oz)

Apologies to the ones I've missed!

26th November update

Finally the new message board is up and running and hopefully it will attract a few more visitors than the last one!
The November news letter has been sent out by now and if any member has not received theirs please contact Eric or Gary (from the contacts page. (PS,You can readit online from the members area)

8th November update
It seems that a great deal of pike were caught on the opening weekend's event at Blithfield reservoir with the best fish wieghing in at 36lb-12oz boated on Sunday afternoon. The Saturday session also produced a 31lb-4oz pike to Dave Kelbrick. There were also a number of fish caught between 20 and 30lb on both days. More details when I have them.
The new message board is now up and running!
28th October update
A bit late in the day I know but there is a charity pike match at Combermere nr Whitchurch, Shropshire, which will take place this Sunday the 31st October. Draw takes place at 7.30am on the car park of the Combermere arms. £15 peg fee. This is a syndicate water so Let me know if you want me to book a place.
The Message Board
Sorry but due to the lack of interest and posts the message board has closed.
The message board was hosted on a domain that uses windows servers to take ASP message board software. These are costly to maintain however if there is a demand for one in the future I'll set a 3rd party message board on a free server.
12th October update

The October meeting saw John Davey stood in for Mark Phillips who could not make the event due to work commitments. John ably showed us the methods of trace making using stainless steel strand and titanium wire. A few fair few of the made up traces went missing during the night though, which have no doubt found their way into some others tackle boxes!

Mammoth Pike - Neville Fickling. I've just read this latest book from Neville which records the captures of pike over the 35lb mark. Fred Buller who wrote the original declined to write an update of the original so Neville has basically added to the original with the many large pike caught since the original 'Domesday Book of Mammoth Pike' was published.
The allowing of pike fishing on trout reservoirs from the late 80s has resulted in some spectacular catches from them. Blithfield and Llandegfedd figure prominently in the book which will be of great interest to members. £28 for a hardback copy, well worth it!
3rd October update
The trout water season is upon us and Mark Bryant has a boat spare on 27th October going if anyone wants it. Call Mark on 01273 683676. Mark is also arranging a trip to Ebro in November fishing for zander and has a few places left. The zander in the Ebro get to well over 20lbs and multiple catches of double figure fish are possible. Again, give him a call if you are interested.

Mark Phillips was to be our speaker this month but unfortunately he has to go to Paris and can't make it (ah the life of the idle rich). Mark will be coming up on January 4th instead.
An updated list of speakers now confirmed.
Tuesday 5th October 2004 8.00pm - Local star comes good !
Tuesday 2nd November 2004 8.00pm - Phil Kirk (River piking)
Tuesday xx December 2004 8.00pm - To Be Confirmed
Tuesday 4th January 2005 8.00pm - Mark Phillips (Fenland fishing)
Tuesday 1st February 2005 8.00pm - Pete Haywood – piking on a pension

21st September update
Chris Hammond and myself fished a couple of south fenland rivers at the weekend. Being still very early in the season the rivers were very weedy and warm. Although a few small pike and perch were taken on livebaits, the larger fish never showed. A case of wrong time right place!
9th September update

September meeting.

Unfortunately the guest speaker James Garner could not make the september meeting but hopefully he will coming at a later date now.
Eric Edwards and Gary Knowles came to the rescue though with a slide show and talk. In fact Gary talked so much that we nearly missed last orders!
Eric showed us some of his slides of his recent big chub catches and Gary likewise on his, and other members, successful catfish trip to the river Ebro earlier in the year where a new novel method of catching livebait was explained.......jumping on them with a net!
A very interesting evening and Eric and Gary demonstrated what good all-round anglers they are.
